很本地的人较常用的词,供参考

big wig = top managements in a company or government (top brass)

call on the carpet = heavily criticize = she was called on the carpet.

can someone = fire somebody

get cracking = you have to get cracking = have to do something immediately and quickly

paper-pusher = people who focus on paper work only (regardless of the reality)

pull one's weight = to do some one's job completely well

back to the saltmines = time to back to (hard) work

buck for (a raise) = push very hard for (a salary increase, promotion etc.)

buckle down = very serious seat down for completeing a job (due to time pressure)

bump up = increase/promote/upgrade

bust one's bunes = (bust my ass) work really reaaly hard (i have to bust my ass to have this work finished)

call it a day/night/quites = to end of the day/night (let's call it a day and start it again on monday)

       I have to call it a night (to end the night)
       I have to call it a quites (end a job, marriage)

carve out a niche = create a space for your market(product)

cut out to be = am good at (have a natural talent for something)

deadwood = a employee who does not contribute something but no one could fire him/her

desk jockey = person who never leave their desk , only spend time on their desks

do a sell(sales) job = to convience somebody

do something by the book = following the rules always
